MY FAVOURITE YA CONTEMPORARY BOOKS // summer book recs

technically it’s summer all year round where i stay, but it doesn’t matter haha. i thought i’d just share some of my all time favourite contemporaries (that are also mostly set in the summer?). let’s just get on with it lol.

i literally love all of morgan matson books. they’re all set in summer so if you’re looking for summer reads, they’re great to start with. in case you’re wondering, save the date is not here because i haven’t read it yet.

amy and roger’s epic detour // perfect if you’re looking for books with road trips!! i love the extra details added in like receipts and pictures.

second chance summer // this is way more emotional compared to morgan matson book but it does has great family dynamics which i adored. click here for a more detailed review.

since you’ve been gone // THIS IS POSSIBLY MY FAVOURITE OUT OF ALL OF THEM. such a fun read plus i love watching as emily and her friends complete the items on the list sloane gives her. the romance too ahhh!!

the unexpected everything // this has everything—family, friendships and romance!! i love seeing andie and her friends hanging out and clark (the love interest) is an author what even hahaha.

to all the boys i’ve loved before by jenny han

i love this series so much!! it has great family dynamics and cute, fluffy romance that warms my heart ahhh. i just really like the whole vibe of these books lol. and the movie is coming out soon and i’m so excited about that!!!

one of us is lying by karen m. mcmanus // if you love mysteries, definitely give this a try!! i really liked this book lmao. if you want a detailed review, click here to read mine!

here’s some mental health books if you’re looking for books regarding this topic 🙂

all the bright places by jennifer niven // this book was so emotional (based on my memory haha). but i loved it, despite the ending 😦 also, i liked this way more than i did with the fault in our stars. so if you like tfios, you could give this a try!!

starfish by akemi dawn bowman // the writing’s so beautiful and lyrical. plus the characters are amazing and i was honestly so emotionally invested haha. i loved this book from the beginning to end—although it might not have the best plot, the character development is super good!!

that’s all for this post! there are probably more books that i missed out lol. i might do another post like this in the future if the list is updated haha.
